How To Make Your Competition Irrelevant

The three biggest, most evergreen niches are wealth, health, and romance. We all want money, to be in good health, and to find the perfect partner.

There are literally thousands of sites in each of these categories, and new ones are cropping up every day. Even when you break it down into specific sub-niches of each of these broad topics, there are still a bunch of them.

And, it can get overwhelming, slapping you in the face with a cold, wet fish pretty fast when you’re looking at the other companies in the field. There are huge ones, medium sized ones, and even tiny businesses, all wrestling like a huge family for a piece of grandma’s freshly-baked pie.

It can get crazy!

But, before you put on your shoulder pads and get ready to tussle, I want to let you in on a secret.

Your competition doesn’t matter.

That’s right. Your competition doesn’t matter.

They’re only there for you to learn from their successes and mistakes. They’re not there to intimidate you, make you feel small, or chase them. Simply learn from those who sell what you sell, but they’re not your competition.

Why?

Because the others in your field don’t have YOU on their team.

If you have a product you believe in (and get out NOW if you don’t believe in your product or service. Please, do your sanity a favor), then YOU are the only one in that field.

And that’s the advantage because people buy off of YOUR merit before they buy from the company you’re with. They judge your company based on YOU, and that’s what separates you from the rest of the field.

So, let’s say that you’re doing your market research and you find a company that’s very similar to yours. They’ve got more testimonials on their site, they’ve been around longer, and their site is better looking (in your opinion). It’s natural to feel a little down, but guess what?

That doesn’t matter.

In fact, there’s really only one thing that matters, and that’s what you’re being yourself. You need to be absolute, positively, wonderfully eccentrically you.

1. UBU

UBU means ‘you be you.’

You are unique. Absolutely unique. No, I’m not going to go off into some rant about, like, snowflakes or something. I’m just saying that you’re unique. I can’t be you, and you can’t be me. And because you’re unique, you have your own style.

Your “style” has taken a lifetime to craft. It consists of your:

  • Upbringing

  • Life Experiences

  • Views

  • The books you read

  • The movies you watch

  • The people you listen to

  • The environment you interact with on a daily basis

The list goes on and on. How many people went to the same college as you? How many people lived in the same town as you did? How many people had the same parents as you? Your competition might even be your brother, but did he go to the same places when you became adults? Did you experience theexact same things?

No.

You’re unique. And by that, your company is unique. Your company is the only one who has a ballet dancing biker, or maybe a Nic Cage movie-loving vegetarian who went to MIT, or even an urban container gardening plumber at the helm.

What’s important is that you bring that uniqueness and spark to your business. OTHER people have to try hard to be you, not the other way around.

People will buy from you based on the fact that something resonates with them about you that they can relate to. There are LOTS of people in the world, people who like WHO you are, people who are willing to buy from you.

So, while you don’t run the only company in the world who sells weight loss products on the Internet, you MIGHT be the only one who sells post-pregnancy herbal supplements via videos and email. Every little piece makes you stand out more in the field. YOU are your own competition.

And people will benefit from your teachings.

People will also benefit from your products.

You are providing a worthwhile product or service to the world, and there is no one like you. Nobody else can measure up.

Just being yourself, you will ATTRACT the right kind of people who enjoy your content and your offers. You will ATTRACT the audience who has the money to pay for your goods and services. There is no need to be like X, Y, or Z.

Keep that in mind as you’re building your business. Build it because YOU think it’s cool, not because someone else did it. They aren’t your competition, you are.

2. Seeing the Results

If you are being yourself, doing the best that you can do with your company, people will pay you. And they will pay you HANDSOMELY. Not only will they pay you well, but they’ll talk about you with their friends.

You’ve made an emotional connection with them. You’ve talked with them and developed a rapport with them. They’re buying from YOU because they believe that you have the answer to their problems. Not only that, but they like you and realize that you’ve already provided a powerful benefit. You’ve forged an insanely powerful connection with them, and you’ve obliterated any chance that they’ll go to someone else with their problems.

3. Final Thoughts

Every single guru…. every last one of them… started at the beginning. They didn’t have an internet following. They didn’t have content. They didn’t have anything more than themselves and a will to succeed. And yes, while they started off with different obstacles and a different set of personality traits and everything like that, they still didn’t start off with a finished business.

When you start taking into account that when you’re looking at other companies and that your competition is just another human being, you will soon beat them. YOU are the only one on the playing field because only you can be you.
